She was beautiful and did really fancy manicures which was like magic to me at the time, and he was funny, Puerto Rican (that was unique in the south in the 80's) and the only comic artist I had ever met.
They opened their home and hearts not only to us, but to a ton of kids who were looking for mentors and examples of what kind of people to be when we grew up.
Now they have two kids of their own, and in 2007 he began losing his eyesight and was diagnosed with Macular Edema. As a freelance artist, there is no medical insurance, but being the resourceful guy he is, he created a sci-fi illustrated book that is printed on-demand, and the proceeds have gone to help fund his medical treatment.
Now the treatment he needs in the next three months is a kidney transplant.
So I am reaching out to all my geek comrads out there and asking you to simply buy a copy of his book - that simple. You help someone who has spent his life helping other people AND you get a cool book about lizards!
All of you have had a Frencci in your life, and if you knew they needed help, you would do whatever you could.
